Collaborating Across Cultures: The 2013 RENKEI Researcher Development School in Bristol & Kyoto
Course Description

We are seeking expressions of interest from research students and research staff from any discipline to take part in an exciting UK-Japan researcher development school in Bristol and Kyoto in 2013. RENKEI is collaboration between 12 research-led universities, 6 in the UK and 6 in Japan, facilitated by the British Council in Japan and with the aim to develop collaborative research links between all the participating universities and the UK and Japanese industry. The RENKEI School will be held in two parts, hosted by Bristol (in July 2013) and Kyoto (in December 2013).
If chosen to participate, you will have the opportunity to develop useful skills for working across cultures, exploring the differences between UK and Japanese cultures, between different disciplines and between academia and industry. You will travel to Kyoto to learn about Japanese culture first-hand, you will have expert input on how to work with industry and you will be given the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary cross-cultural team to develop potential research ideas.
This is a prestigious programme to be selected for, as each institution will nominate just 5 applicants from a range of disciplines, of which only 2 will be successful. Travel, accommodation and subsistence costs will be covered.
NB: because of the nature of the School this opportunity is only open to UK citizens or those intending to reside in the UK after their studies or present contract. We are only looking for researchers who will be able to attend both parts of the programme. Support from your supervisor or line manager is essential.
