Doctoral Skills Development Programme

Welcome to the Doctoral Skills Development Programme

The Doctoral Skills Development Programme is open to all postgraduate research students at UCL. The purpose of the programme is to give you the opportunity to expand your generic research skills and personal transferable skills. These skills are intended to help your research at UCL and also to enhance your life skills and employability. Transferable skills training for researchers is an important part of UCL's research strategy and the QAA Quality Code for Higher Education.

The skills programme is informed by Vitae's national Researcher Development Framework (RDF), a professional national development framework for planning and supporting the personal, professional and career development of researchers.

On this website, you can find details of the programme of practical skills training courses and workshops running this academic year, as well as general information and useful links in relation to generic and transferable skills training. Here you are able to register for training courses and manage your skills training portfolio through the on-line system.

The Programme is open to all MPhil/PhD, EngD, MRes, ESRC research recognised programmes and other research degrees. Students should discuss with their Supervisor which courses from the Doctoral Skills Development Programme and any departmental/faculty training courses they need to attend, and then select a range of courses to be taken over the full period of their research.

The Doctoral Skills Development Programme covers the cost for students attending its courses.
